Conjured Delight

Fresh baked bread and chocolate chip cookies mixed together in the air as if an alchemist knew it would have a strange effect on me Stopped in my tracks and wondering where it is coming from my imagination is the source or this mockery I can almost taste them both warm both a bit chewy both bursting with flavor as they fill my mouth with unbelievable joy I am satisfied my expectations were not unmet and then a lemon rears it head And all I can do as it exposes itself to the knife is wonder as I cannot control the juices of resistance gathering around my tongue and in my cheeks no delight no delight

2009 Black History Poem - Waco Poetry

My aunt Alice called today wanting me and my sister to read a poem at Church tomorrow for their BHM program. So, I sat down and wrote this today. The 2009 Poem “The remembrance originated in 1926 by historian Carter G. Woodson as "Negro History Week"[citation needed]. Woodson chose the second week of February because it marked the birthdays of two Americans who greatly influenced the lives and social condition of African Americans: former President Abraham Lincoln and abolitionist and former slave Frederick Douglass. Woodson also founded the Association for the Study of Negro Life and History, now the Association for the Study of African American Life and History.” “When the tradition of Black History Month was started in the US, many in mainstream academia had barely begun to explore black history. At that point, most representation of blacks in history books was only in reference to the low social position they held as slaves and their descendants, with infrequent exception...

Let It Ring - Black History Waco Poetry

And those tiny black and pink flecks littering a tiny desk finding places on pint sized blue jeans and upon earth colored carpeted floors are they signs of starting over of beginning anew of dusting one's self off oft times we forget that the past comes trailing along like the distinct smell of childhood the remembrance of what it felt like to be wide open and naive to the world and the self and the other continuations drawn out like hieroglyphics and the lights were off because now we know that the glow is as a horizon of heavy breathing and hope the shoulders have fallen in relief though the levee still is breached and angels wail while others writhe and love has pulled and tugged the tide with lunar essence undefined The gathering throngs of humanness the swelling pride of hubris the shackled minds of betrayed faith and God is full yet of all grace the turns and twists and storied plight the bold new day a nation's blight in one grand glorious vote of might we're staid F...

There Are The Lies - Waco Poetry

Everywhere there is need met embraced and kissed with wet dew-weighed abundance there are those heedless do not see this blinded by sheer paranoiac tribal ways Store houses replace the vineyards muddy swollen feet and hands in pockets traipse back and forth partitions are erected high and broad keeping skeptics at arms length away There is a knowing stubbornly afoot whispering the way to find the sultry crafted cage identifying what has kept you captive tugging at the bonds to be let free jaevans 1pm 1/5/09
